Free WMIX Software for In-Depth, Simplified Remote Systems Management
WMIX is an intuitive and easy-to-use GUI-based tool that transforms the complexity of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) technology, making in-depth, agent-free systems management simple.
Goverlan, Inc. today announced free licenses of WMIX. From now until the end of this year, Goverlan is offering up to five (5) complimentary WMIX user licenses to the first 100 organizations who respond to its special offer. For more information visit WMIX Offer.
WMI is Microsoft’s solution to the Web Based Enterprise Management (WBEM) industry initiative to develop a standard technology for accessing management information in an enterprise environment. It uses the Common Information Model (CIM) industry standard to provide access to a machine’s manageable components. WMI is a powerful technology, however, in its raw form it can only be accessed via a scripting language like VBScript or PowerShell, which makes it difficult to use for common administration tasks.
Using WMIX, systems administrators can access WMI’s management features and extended WMI repositories (such as Hyper-V, SQL server, SCCM) without having to script or know the underlying WMI technology. They can easily generate complex Action Scripts using the built-in script generator, create Group Policy WMI filters and SCCM reports, or enhance PowerShell scripts with the WQL Wizard from WMIX.
“I use WMIX specifically when I am trying to either Data Mine very specific information or make changes to areas within the computing environment that are not standard or easily accessible. WMIX allows me to identify and access those areas and then build them into my scope actions allowing me to, thus far, access any information on our desktops or change the environment in any way I need. The granularity of WMIX allows me to access even the most obscure places and information within our environment which greatly increases our diagnostic and repair capabilities as well as our reporting abilities for everything from asset management and lifecycle to upgrade path planning and everything in between,” said Chris Grinham, Federal Government of Canada.
In addition to providing user-friendly and unrestricted access to the WMI technology, WMIX is also an integral part of the Goverlan Remote Administration Suite (“Goverlan Suite”). With WMIX and the Goverlan Suite’s Scope Actions feature, technicians are able to perform WMI queries and actions on large sets of computers, again, without scripting or knowing how to use WMI. Scope Actions is a unique and powerful feature found only in the Goverlan Suite, offering the ability to execute custom actions on a defined scope of users, computers or groups which can be scheduled to run when needed. A single technician can deploy WMI administrative tasks to thousands of machines or perform mass reporting in a matter of minutes.
“Using the Scope Actions, WMIX and Wake on LAN capabilities together, we have been able to do large deployments such as Office 2007, instantly apply important security patches and measures, locate software installations for license management as well as report on hardware for lifecycle planning,“ Grinham added.
As a one-time promotion, Goverlan is offering free WMIX licenses to the first 100 organizations who request them. For more information about this limited time offer, please visit WMIX Offer.
