How to Migrate the Goverlan Central Server to a new machine

In this article we will demonstrate how to migrate your Goverlan Central Server to a new machine.

Migration

  1. Locate the GCS log directory as shown below. These will be on your existing server.
  2. Backup the files in this location. This is your audit logs and current policies.
  3. On your new server, create the directory in the image above and copy all contents to the new location.
  4. Run the GCS installer
  5. You may receive a prompt for updating the database. Please click yes.

You have now created a new GCS server. All that remains is to switch over the DNS SRV record for _goverlan. The agents will begin to use the new server once DNS has been replicated. For more information about the GCS DNS Record, see this user guide article.

Testing the new server before switching the DNS record.

  1. Run the GCS installer on a workstation that has the Goverlan agent installed.
  2. During the installation, ONLY INSTALL THE CLIENT SETTINGS TESTER UTILITY.
  3. You will see a GCS Tester App icon on the desktop.
  4. Hold SHIFT and double click the icon.

This will force the test workstation to send audit logs and test the new server before you switch over the DNS record.
